This scenario is assessing your approach to working within a multiprofessional team and taking responsibility for the situation while understanding your limitations as a trainee. If you decide to change delivery method (e.g., change from a test centre appointment to a remote delivery via OnVUE) you will first have to cancel your existing booking and then book a new appointment choosing the preferred delivery method. You are a medical student on a clinical rotation in the emergency department. A patient comes in with severe abdominal pain, and the attending physician asks you to assist with the physical examination. As you are about to begin, the patient tells you that they are feeling uncomfortable with your gender and request that a different medical student with a different gender assist with the exam. All applicants who apply to DCT in any given recruitment year are required to sit the SJT. There are no exceptions or exemptions to this requirement.

Rate the appropriateness of verbal responses to a situation, assuming they are said in a polite way (very appropriate; somewhat appropriate; somewhat inappropriate; inappropriate)It is important to prepare appropriately before sitting the SJT, but there is some advice that can help ensure that candidates have the best chance at success, for example:

There is no negative marking and a “near-miss” scoring system is used, so marks will be given based on how close you were to the correct answer. For example, if in a rating question you rated a response as “inappropriate” but the correct answer was “somewhat inappropriate” you would still get some of the marks available.
