About this deal

Another fantastic model by Forge World – and a character with mysterious origins. Zardu Layak is a possessed, mutated herald formerly of the Ashen Circle, with an insectoid head and daemonic banner. In battle they could shed their veil of seeming and become true monsters, fusions of armour, bone and muscle charged with supernatural power. Marked by their crimson armour they were a revered elite amongst the Word Bearers, walking embodiments of Lorgar's true vision for his Legion. Argel Tal - Known as the Crimson Lord, Argel Tal was the favoured son of Lorgar, and served as the de facto commander of the Gal Vorbak.

Argel Tal was the sole surviving original member of the Gal Vorbak, having been seconded to the World Eaters Legion for temporary duty before the Word Bearers' assault on Calth. Argel Tal forsook his oaths to the annihilated Serrated Sun Chapter and gained permission from his Primarch Lorgar to form a newly constituted formation, known as the Vakrah Jal, the "Chapter of Consecrated Iron", who rose from the ashes of those Word Bearers companies devastated on the killing fields of Istvaan V. Argel Tal gathered hundreds of leaderless Astartes and gave them unity and new purpose. Most P3 Paints do not match closely with the old GW range, but a detailed explanation of each paint can be found here: http://www.brushthralls.com/pre-painting-prep/color-theory-10p3.html When they returned to realspace and their waiting Primarch, they were told that they had only been gone for a few moments in subjective time. After Argel Tal told Lorgar all that had transpired in the Eye of Terror, the survivors were honoured and the Serrated Sun Chapter was renamed the Gal Vorbak, the "Blessed Sons" in the dialect of the Word Bearers' homeworld of Colchis. http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/media/e588d28183cec31ffd6dcee6d3718fc3.cms/equivalencias-rev05.pdf

I applied weathering / battle damage using a similar method from a previous article: Applying a dark grey to the edges of terrain with a torn piece of sponge. Spartan • Kratos • Sicaran ( Venator • Punisher • Arcus • Omega) • Malcador ( Annihilator • Defender • Infernus) • Cerberus • Typhon I would definitely find room for these in any Word Bearers army, and probably run them quite cheap – give the Dark Martyr Artificer Armour and a Power Fist, and put them in a Land Raider or Dreadclaw. http://www.ttfxmedia.com/vallejo/cgi-bin/_modelis_info.asp?p1=ing&p2=modelcolor&p3=1#modelcolorinfo

The end result is one I’m pretty happy with – it’s colorful and detailed without looking too uniform, and the whole thing took an hour or so, not counting time for things like waiting for the Agrax to dry. This is easy enough to replicate that I’ll do the rest of it this way, though I’ll probably vary up the colors on the signs and panels, since the red/yellow/blue aspect is the one thing I’m not super happy with.

Rockfish’s Method

There’s plenty of extra information in the full video to help you paint every single miniature in Leviathan. By applying all of these tips, you should be able to get your whole box completed in no time at all! Lizzie: The Apothecary Biologis is quite different from the others, so I primed him with Grey Seer Spray to help build up the white. I then base coated this miniature with a few thin layers of Ulthuan Grey , which is a good base because if I’d started with a pure white, I wouldn’t be able to find a brighter colour to highlight with. Macragge Blue: This is a deep, rich blue that can be used to add depth and richness to your models. It can be used in combination with Gal Vorbak Red to create a sense of balance and contrast. Even since the days of the Horus Heresy, Gal Vorbak augmented their wargear with spikes and blades for use in close combat. [7] Notable Members

The reason why is simple – you buy them for 100 pts as an upgrade for Zardu Layak, but then they form their own unit which you cannot merge with other units – so you have 3 guys at 275 pts walking around, with no ability to deliver them into combat, or properly take advantage of things like the Panoply of Flame or Zardu Layak’s psychic abilities. Very frustrating! Cut Them Down– Word Bearers must always make Sweeping Advances when possible, and must re-roll Sweeping Advance roll results of “1”. Burning Lore – Any Praetor, Centurion or Chaplain can take this upgrade for +30 pts, turning them into a Level 1 Psyker with access to Biomancy or Telepathy. For Praetors, Biomancy can be potent – a decent upgrade all round. The gold trim on the cape was painted with Retributor, and washed with Druchii Violet to help reassert the purple-ish shadows of the cape. The eyes were painted with Lupercal Green, washed with Contrast Militarum Green, and then given a yellow stripe through them. The Bearers of the Word are a Legion with a lot of choices and scope for different builds, all of which will have good morale, strong psychic abilities, and access to things other Legions don’t have, like Daemon allies. I think they are a good Traitor Legion if you are not sure exactly what sort of force you want and don’t want to commit to a Legion with a specific playstyle (like, say, World Eaters). For 175 pts, Zardu Layak is a real steal – he has a great range of rules, and allows for very interesting army builds, while being not bad in a fistfight if called upon.
