Lots of the scientific research into Azelaic as a treatment for acne and melasma is based on 20%. There is a school of thought that there is no need to use such a high percentage when you can get results from lower percentages, with less irritation. Speaking from personal experience, I have never had the same results from 10% in terms of acne reduction, 20% has always worked much better for me so I will always go with that strength. Since using this cream, I've seen a reduction in the amount of spots that I was getting. Plus it's got rid of some stubborn milia type spots. My skin tone is more even and bright. The cream has also helped fade my acne pigmentation. All in all, I've been really impressed with it! After you select what treatment you’d like, you answer a questionnaire about yourself and your skin. It includes questions about medical conditions, age, ingredient allergies, and more. At this stage, you also upload 3 clear and high-quality pictures of your skin, without makeup, for Dermatica’s dermatology team to assess. Boasting 20% azelaic acid and with this ingredient being the first on the INCI list (besides water), this is a powerful solution. Loads of skincare brands market their key “actives” on products, but when you look at the INCI list, those ingredients are right at the bottom. Disappointing, I know. Of course, the formula is king, so this isn’t applicable to every product, but it is to a lot of them. It’s so refreshing to see that a product marketed for azelaic acid features this ingredient right near the top of the ingredients list.

Dermatica have now brought out their first "over the counter" product - Azelaic Acid 20% Cream. I've been using this for about 6 weeks now so it's time to share my thoughts! Azelaic Acid is fantastic for acne sufferers as it helps reduce inflammation as well as fading any pigmentation that has been left behind by spots. This cream also contains Ceramides and Vitamin E to soothe and nourish skin. Dermatica describes rosacea as: “Rosacea is a cause of persistent redness around the cheeks, chin, nose and forehead, affecting around 10% of people.” Bit of history from my side- I suffer with acne and melasma. My melasma is kind of under control after using Hydroquinone and Tretinoin but I’m on a break from the Hydroquinone so I could do with some bonus depigmentation which know Azelaic is good for. I get nasty spots around my period and little spots around my lower face all month long, yey! In this post, I’m discussing Dermatica’s over-the-counter (OTC) Azelaic Acid 20% Cream. As well as my everyday redness being reduced, I’ve also noticed that my rosacea flare-ups are both less frequent and less noticeable when they happen. My rosacea tends to flare up when my skin gets warm. Now I’m finding that my rosacea doesn’t get triggered so easily. But when my skin does flare up, the redness is less obvious now and tends to go away much faster.
