The answer is no. Not every pump works for a Boston valve. To put air in one of these, you’ll need a special adapter. The solution to this problem is so simple. To deal with this, just make sure your thread is clean. When you remove the debris in the thread, this problem will go away. That said, there are two standard sizes for the whole Boston valve. These are normal and small. Normal having a diameter of 4 cm, while the small is smaller than this.

If I were you - again, this is only if I understood you properly - I would cut off the external thread and replace it with a Boston valve (see video on the article for tutorial). Trying to connect a BV to an external thread doesn’t sound like it will work. Pressure gauges will tell you how much pressure you’ve put into the inflatable. These are good as a rule of thumb, but you must remember that air and water temperature will affect the kayak pressure. If you will be in hot sun, under-inflate the kayak as the air will heat up and expand. If you will be kayaking in cold water, over-inflate slightly as the air will cool down and contract. But if you have several paddle boards–maybe one for each family member– you might be wondering if you’ll have to buy a pump for each one, or can you get one pump for all of them? The middle is a piece that is screwed into the base. You can think of the middle as a seal for the hole. When it is screwed into the base, air can’t get out of the boat. The exact measurements (such as the length and threads of the middle piece) vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. There are no standards when it comes to these things. If not, you will have to measure the valve and see if you can find a replacement online. Since not all Boston valves are created equal, it can be hard to find an exact fit. The valve base gives you access to the hull of the kayak and is what lets air in and out of the kayak. Unlike some other valves, you can’t blow air into a Boston valve with your mouth. You’ll need a pump for that. And not just any pump either, you need one designed for these. We’ll take a closer look at this in a bit. This might make the replacement of a defective Boston valve a problem, especially if you have an inflatable boat for which the manufacturer does not offer replacement parts.

Leafield Marine are constantly upgrading their air valve designs and they recently developed the D7 inflation and deflation valve and the A9 pressure valve. Each has an internal mesh filter and they’re great for paddle boards. The Boston Valve adaptor is a slightly conical nozzle found on most standard pumps (on right in picture above). In that case, you might not be able to use this type of gauge. It’s a good idea to make sure you can return the pressure gauge just in case it doesn’t fit your application. Are Boston valves universal? With a long pin, everything else is super easy. Your gauge will let you know exactly how much pressure is in your boat. Conclusion

You can use any pump, but you will need to have a special Boston valve adaptor. The good news is that most pumps will come with one, since Boston valves are common. It has three key parts. The first one, which is the base and is attached to the inflatable boat, the middle part, and a cap that makes the third. It’s really not much more complicated than that. I also tried searching for an external-internal adapter - but only found for water pipes, not valves. You could try using these. However, I’ve never done anything like this, so I can’t assure you it will work. Inflatable paddle boards come with different valve types and a certain pump may be designed for a specific valve type. However, you can use an adapter to make an electric SUP pump compatible with your SUP valve type. Most of the time, your inflatable boat will arrive with a Boston valve already installed. Nevertheless, knowing how to install one is a great skill to have. It will come in handy if you want to replace your old valves, or if you are building something inflatable.
