About this deal

The independent-minded quarterly magazine that combines good looks, good writing and a personal approach.

I accompany Rose to Paris, where she meets new people and has to differentiate between healthy and toxic relationships. After a few false starts, I gave this a whirl and I actually did enjoy it – I always have mixed feelings when the characters are intentionally unlikable. The premise is fascinating but I found the story in itself quite depressing, all those years lost over a house – I’m not sure if I’m the only one who felt this way, it just seemed so sad and unnecessary.

This brilliant book follows the aftermath of a tragic event which affects the life of the young couple involved, as they try to continue on afterwards. The book deals with several themes, including euthanasia, prostitution, the effects of the Holocaust, immigration and aging. I really liked the art discussions and to hear about her touring the city of Paris and the other areas of France.

He plants his toes in the French earth and turns his lyrical gaze on the land, the people, the deep community spirit. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it as a perfect summer read that will immerse and transport you to Paris and beyond. I resonated with many elements of this story and it was so easy to feel for Rose, even if exact details of our circumstances didn’t match. Rose secretly hoped she might have a bit of fun and meet a charming man in Paris… and indeed she does!

Experience time stand still as you gaze upon the magnificent view of Singapore’s city skyline with glass in hand. I found this book so lovely but also so upsetting, I kept comparing it to my own relationship and how I would navigate the events as they unravelled. The "self revelations" come too late, Rose's family is grating to continue to be exposed to, and the small hints at romance and hope are upended a few sentences later. Last year was the first year I set myself an actual reading goal, although I do usually read about 30 books a year so I wasn’t exactly aiming too high. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. It’s quite shocking and at times really tough to get through, but I did enjoy it – taboo reads like this definitely bring a lot of feelings though!
