Description

His books have appeared on numerous best-seller lists, as well as being shortlisted for ABIA Children’s Book of the Year and CBCA Notable Picture Book of the Year. The story, My Shadow is Pink by Scott Stuart, is shared and children discuss the events before going on to offer advice to the main character. Inspired by the best selling Melbourne author's own son, My Shadow is Pink is a beautifully written rhyming story of love and self-acceptance that touches on the subjects of gender identity, equality and diversity.

The reader follows the journey of a young boy who has been born into a family with a long history of blue shadows. He must start school, and this worries him, but he is determined to dress like his shadow dresses and wear a dress for his first day. Dannii Minogue interviewed the author Scott Stuart on Instagram and she said - I've almost cried 3 times!

Opportunities for phonics teaching is embedded throughout and suggestions for Continuous Provision are also made.

His empowering messages have been seen over 100 million times on Social Media, and he is a leading voice on fully accepting and empowering our children, exactly as they are. Dad is really worried now, and when the lad gets to school, the other children are shocked at the sight of a boy in a dress. This is a delightful story to read to my son and the rhymes are beautiful how it tells your child they can be whatever they want to be as they grow and learn that our shadows show who we truly are and I like to say my son’s shadow is a rainbow as he is a ray of sunshine that loves everything and I, his mum I have a purple shadow. I love the way the author relates a universal matter to all children helping them understand that color has no gender. This is a truly enlightening book about accepting individuality and a must have for any child’s bookshelf. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I think this is a good way to introduce that just because society associates colors with gender, blue does not mean boy and pink does not mean girl.

I do feel, however, that the dual themes could be a little confusing as the main character has such a fully pink shadow. I bought this story for my 4 year old little boy who loves to dress up in a tutu or dress and loves his Frozen water bottle.
