And as anyone who has seen any of these films before will know, they were all shot on 35mm and made heavy use of optical work for their SFX and VFX work, as well as very early CG, meaning there was always a degree of fluctuations present in terms of their look – especially their detail and grain levels. The legacy of Hellraiser continues today, following the release of a reboot movie starring Sense8's Jamie Clayton as a gender-swapped version of Pinhead. So while those inherent source issues remain however – grain haters will feel their skin crawl and there are real fluctuations in terms of those picture characteristics, which are nothing to do with the quality of the transfers here – and should be made aware to casual viewers, fans of the films and owners of previous discs will be more than pleased with the picture improvements of this new 4K release. JP’s girlfriend Terri, ( Paula Marshall) hooks up with Joey after coming into possession of the iconic puzzle box. Hellraiser: Quartet of Torment is on 4K Ultra HD™ blu-ray from Arrow Video in both 'Limited Edition' (pictured above) and 'Arrow Exclusive Limited Edition' and will be available from the 23 rd October, and will also be available in 4K on ARROW-Player.

rendered cleanly and with good prioritization and there are no problems to report in terms of dropouts, distortion or even hiss. Don’t miss this chance to see Hellraiser, described by Empire as “genuinely disturbing”, on the big screen in a 4K restoration from the original camera negatives, in all its gory and gleefully disturbing glory. The experience of one of horror’s most iconic films in all its devilish glory on the big screen is certainly something that I’ve always wanted to be part of and the Hellraiser 4K Restoration screening was the perfect opportunity to take in the cinematic horror experience. In my humble opinion this is one of the weaker films in the series and you would probably enjoy one of the first 5 films a lot more than this one.Until here, sex in horror films was either criminal or punishable, yet suddenly it became something else…something far greater, better, worse, something impressionable young minds were blown by…literally. They all utilise 10-bit video depth, have WCG and both main HDR grades (HDR10 and Dolby Vision) applied and have been encoded using the HEVC/H. Yes, horror, but at its heart is a story of love, longing, obsession, lust and the abject boredom and the familiarity of marriage. Hedonist Frank Cotton ( Sean Chapman) thinks he has reached the limits of earthly pleasure, but a mysterious puzzle box will take him further than he can possibly imagine, opening the doors to a dominion where pain and pleasure are indivisible and summoning the Cenobites, whose experiments in the higher reaches of experience will tear Frank’s soul apart.

No matter how many times I see Doug Bradley in his “normal” clothing and then in character as Pinhead, the difference is so stark that they almost seem like two different people. But note that the feature-length Leviathan documentaries, Barker's early short films Salome and The Forbidden, and the Question of Faith fan film included on 'The Scarlet Box' set are missing.Friendly discussions about pickups, collection sharing, sales, or specific films/releases are all welcome. The visual effects haven’t aged particularly well but I can’t be too critical based on the budget of the film. The company is bringing Clive Barker’s Hellraiser to Ultra HD in October as part of the Hellraiser: Quartet of Torment box set.

Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ.

Channard has struck gold after hearing Kirsty’s story and has designs to see what is beyond the trappings of the flesh and after a particularly gory scene involving a straight razor and a mattress, opens ‘THE BOX’ with the help of mute inpatient ‘Tiffany’ ( Imogen Boorman) and delves deep into the labyrinth of hell.

The plot throughout the 8 films with Doug Bradley starring as "Pinhead" is pretty standardised and formulaic but enjoyable none the less. The Hellraiser 4K restoration breathes new life into the haunting visuals of the film, intensifying the gruesome details, and enriching the atmospheric depth. And into this morass of stagnating blood and guts came Barker’s bizarre creation, itself a Frankenstein of unlimited imagination and horribly suffocating production restrictions, a film that at once showcased a first-time film maker and an author (the film is based on one of his novellas, The Hellbound Heart) whose worlds far exceeded anything in horror or dark fantasy before and arguably since. As a US contributor to Digital Spy, Justin has also been on the ground to cover major pop culture events like the Star Wars Celebration and the D23 Expo. There were always a lot of filtered shots used across the three films – more so in the second film – that meant this sharpness is not uniform, but neither should it, this softness inherent to the source material and at least here there’s been no attempts to try and balance this across the picture. Don’t get me wrong, it’s kind of fun to see them walking through the streets causing mayhem, but they are very much from the 90’s. Higgins once again revels in the malice and control of Julia’s character, alongside her is Sean Chapman as the ever sweaty sex pest ’Frank’ and of course Doug Bradley as the iconic ‘Pinhead’. challenge of Arrow having authored or titled things differently for this release, I may have missed something. The reason I’m adverse to discussing these particular films is because they have such a deep emotional meaning to me that I am incapable of being objective about either of them, as I regard them both equally as films elevated above all other movies and works of true genius.
