The game was in development for 9 to 10 months before the studio was told by the publisher that it was going to be cancelled, as Mario Kart DS was scheduled to come out around the same time. Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex , the first PS2 addition to the series, delivers the same mix of intuitive gameplay and elaborate adventure that fans have come to expect, with many enhancements and all-new environments and missions. Coco Bandicoot, Crash's younger sister, is a highly intelligent computer expert with an interest in Hong Kong martial arts films, having developed a highly masterful ability of martial arts from being self taught. As no lives are lost in the Time Trial mode, the level can be played through as often as the player desires.

Only a handful of aspects were kept for Twinsanity, such as The Evil Twins as the villains and Crash teaming up with Cortex to defeat them. Crash and Coco lose a life when they are struck by an enemy attack or suffer any other type of damage. A prototype for Crash Twinsanity, it was set to create a new form of gameplay for the Crash Bandicoot series as it would have utilized a large-scale story with gameplay combining platforming and RPG elements. The graphics were positively received for their rich colour palette and increased definition and special effects from the previous games, but were generally seen as less impressive than those of competing games on their respective systems.After developing Crash Twinsanity, Traveller's Tales Oxford Studio began developing another Crash Bandicoot game, a racing title which would have served as a direct sequel to Twinsanity.

More lives can be earned by collecting 100 "Wumpa Fruits" or break open a special crate to collect a life. Another complaint is that the backgrounds, always well detailed in Crash games, are this time too detailed, so much so that I for had trouble telling the difference between what was there for show and what was actually out to hurt me!
