Here we go! Christmas Decorations for the RV (keep scrolling to see pictures of these ideas in use!) We didn’t want to be wasteful and buy brand new decorations just to get rid of them,” the Watsons said. “We decided the most sustainable way to decorate for our family would be to buy our decorations secondhand at a thrift store and then re-donate them after the holidays.” Of course, you could also add some curtains as well as put the reflectix in the windows for that extra bit of insulation!

Over the 3 months we spent travelling the USA we added a few things here and there to make him feel more like home. The poster is now by my desk and the postcards on our fridge in our Vancouver, BC apartment but the decorated cupboards still remain. We also decorated our cupboards with a road map of the USA and marked out our route as we completed it. Finding a way to add some colour (even if that colour is white) is a great way to modify your campervan and make it feel more like you and your home.

If you’re somewhere that tends to be warm then you’ll be okay with just curtains. If you’re somewhere that’s colder and you need all the insulation you can get then you’ll probably already have reflectix for your window. You could do this in so many ways. Whether that’s by painting your walls, cupboards or shelves, getting coloured decor, adding curtains or updating your reflectix as above. For Irina Coombes, a full size tree in her camper was non negotiable! So she made it work by taking out her table and putting her beautiful Christmas tree there! The lit garland is like a frame for the tree! I love how one entire section of her camper is dedicated to Christmas!!

The Dekkers, in contrast, haven’t forgone the tradition of gift-giving; however, there is a caveat to this receiving. After Christmas, they get rid of older items and toys to make room for the new ones. To get around decorating their RV with bulky objects that take up valuable space, especially with their full house, they opted for functional decor. Holiday-themed bed sheets and throw pillows replace the usual bedding. Similarly, kitchen and bathroom towels, oven mitts, and doormats can be substituted for festive ones. Add a touch of Christmas They keep a letter board by the front of the bus and display funny holiday quotes for everyone to read. Something else that can add a little decor is holiday-themed window clings. Kids will enjoy arranging snowflakes, Santas, and reindeer on every window. Skinny Christmas tree Make a little room for the tree You don’t have to have a big tree to make a statement! A pretty little Christmas tree paired with other holiday decor looks just as nice! Will and Kristen Watson, along with their daughter, Roam, and playful pooch, travel in their 180-foot skoolie. They agree that a little goes a long way. “In a tiny space a few decorations will have you feeling like you’re in a winter wonderland,” the Watsons said.

When you live in a van you’ll spend a lot of time on your sofa/bed so making it comfortable is pretty important. It’s one thing you won’t regret spending a bit of extra money on.

There’s something special about enjoying a cup of coffee in new places and with great views. Something that’s one of my favourite things about living in a camper van. Most importantly, don’t get too stressed about the decor details… enjoy the season with whoever you are camping with! The Murphy family, including Andy, Kristen, Kieghan, and Kinsler Murphy, uses many natural elements to decorate their RV. “We try to forage what we can to create fresh, natural decorations each year rather than buying new from the stores,” the family shared. “We have enjoyed it much better, and the kids love getting to make things year over year.”

Help Centre

The Murphys save a little money like the Watsons by buying used. They scour second-hand stores for decorations and recirculate them after the holidays for others to use. “I donate or sell locally what I don’t want to keep early in the season, and then I aim to only buy what I cannot DIY,” Kristen said. Find more Christmas decoration ideas Just because you are in a smaller space DOESN’T mean that you can’t still have fun with things (inside and out!) There are plenty of small trees, hanging trees and other ideas as well as tons of Christmas themed camp decor too!
