Description

The high pH value causes weed seeds to dry out so that they cannot take root and germinate – in a completely natural way. Joints should always be filled to the top, so remember to top up the joints from time to time and to keep the paving surface free from dirt and leaves. Enter your data in our coverage calculator to get an answer on how much material you need to achieve a nice and durable result. The paving stones are laid on a sustainable gravel and sand layer in accordance with current standards for paving work.

Our dark granite stone dust is a strong choice for both wide and narrow joints between concrete tiles and natural paving stones. Dansand Top Lock ® is made entirely from silica sand, natural high pH minerals and a natural binding agent.Using a DANSAND ® NO GROW™ filling material in your joints means waving goodbye not just to hard work – you can also wave goodbye to harmful chemicals. The joint material must not be classified as hazardous according to the Danish Ministry of the Environment’s rules for classification and labelling. To this end, they swallow pebbles, gravel and sand, and Dansand’s silica sand is used as a dietary supplement for smaller birds.

Dansand Top Lock® must only be applied to a dry surface, and the material itself must also be completely dry when being swept in. You can also use a high-pressure cleaner, but be careful not to damage the paving stones or the sublayer. To use our product DANSAND TOP LOCK® polymeric/ Firm Fix block paving fix at this time of the year (January) is very risky, the weather is often rainy, and the temperature is often also too low ( Recommended temp 10 to 30 degrees as shown on the bag), so the risk for that the joints are not setting properly is very high, due to the hardening conditions are not optimal at this time of the year. The mineral has a naturally high pH value, which creates a nutrient-poor environment in your joints. Thanks to this filler’s specially designed formula consisting of tiny beads of kiln-dried sand, you’ll find that its naturally nutrient-poor minerals work to suppress weed growth by drying out the seeds before they take root.

Mix the filling material in a bucket or a wheelbarrow using a shovel to mix the mineral additives with the silica sand. It forms secure yet permeable joints, which harden in contact with water to produce tough elastic bonds that won’t crack under pressure! Fortunately the very heavy Dansand pack was delivered by a well built strong chap who carried it to rear of the house for us, as it would have been impossible for us to move it to the garden area. Not convinced there is any active ingredient to prevent weed growth, as after a thorough clean and re-sanding with this product, I can still see weeds sprouting! Reliability, weed prevention, durability and ease of use are the key things we look for when jointing block paving. Excellent product, easy to apply and although not yet tested, it would be great if it did inhibit weeds. Catering once again dished up the best figures in the Garden Centre Association’s (GCA) December 2023 Barometer of Trade (BoT) report with outdoor plants and houseplants also doing well (January 2024). After use tried to remove as much surplus as possible, the next few days it had started hardening and where I had used it the red and blue tiles were stained whiteish.

However, we recommend a covered storage location, as the plastic foil will not withstand heavy rain. We’ve also found that whilst this product’s incredible structure is excellent for paving joints between 3-10mm wide, it won’t provide enough stability in block-paved drives with joints wider than 10mm. I was considering Dansand No Grow Block Paving Sand - brushing it in with heavy brush then sweeping excess away with fine brush and misting with light spray from the hose pipe to set.

Dansand are a bit coy about how it works saying 'Dansand® joint filling sand consists primarily of common quartz sand from Denmark and sustainable natural minerals that give a high pH value. Whilst still allowing for water drainage through the joints to help provide ample drainage to your block paving. This membrane is resistant to wind and weather and makes it impossible for weed seeds to penetrate into the joint. To avoid weeds and displacements in the paving, the joint must always be filled to the full height of the joint edge and be completely free of soil and other organic material.
