Description

Electa’s fate takes an unexpected turn when, against all the odds, she is Chosen to remain in her society for the rest of her life and to compete in Imperial Panore, a once in a generation event to find a wife for the future Emperor. For some of us, this type of living is so far beyond our wildest imagination, that we have difficulty relating to it. Her talent for deception is the only thing keeping her alive, for now, but if Electa is anything, it’s defiant, and she will defy the path fate has laid before her and the will of men who try to control her until her last breath. As Shannon finds a loyal alliance in Clint, she realizes that there is darkness aiming for everyone she ever cared for, and if she does not act soon enough, she might end up losing them.

The protagonist Electa steel is strong willed and her flaws are clear and well thought out unlike so many protagonists in YA novels these days. But, none the less, the pain and heartache represented between the pages of Divine occur in real life more than we'd like to think possible. Unfortunately, it’s not as many books as I read the previous year and I really want to try to read 70-80 books in 2024. Set in an alternative reality, where the Roman Empire never fell, and the world was never the same, Divine takes place in present-day Appia - real-world North America which has been fractured by a mythical war and consequently divided into five Imperial fortress states.Set in an alternative reality, where the Roman Empire never fell, and the world was never the same, Divine takes place in present-day Appia – real-world North America which has been fractured by a mythical war and consequently divided into five Imperial fortress states. It is heavily emphasised in the notes and promotional material that Woodman initially wrote this when she was 14, and unfortunately, IT SHOWS. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an emotional, but uplifting Christian work of fiction. A series of events finds Shannon send back to the 21st century alone, pregnant and surrounded by mysterious people. Shannon’s magic sleep gift sends her dreaming of worlds and the events all around her that will send her on a mission to rescue Rhiannon’s father and bring salvation to the people of Partholon from the wrath of Fomorians. Let me start by saying I discovered this book on TikTok as I imagine many others have , I was intrigued by the premise of a modern Roman Empire. A group the MC is up against who are more likely to win because they’re Patricians (*cough* careers)? In Divine Might, Natalie Haynes, the bestselling author of Stone Blind and Pandora's Jar, introduces us to the stories of the Greek goddesses. The author invents a number of statistics that are completely unrealistic about Abstinence only education at a senate hearing and rambles on for an extended period concerning the politics surrounding it. Suffice it to say, though, that instances like these were peppered throughout, often making me roll my eyes at the lazy storytelling that seemed to rely on nothing but a long string of deus ex machina moments.
