I liked the setting, the cute little island town was quaint and the thriller/mystery was also very compelling. Not when the man who broke her teenage heart into splinters keeps showing up at her parents' dinner table.

You don’t fall for your brother’s high school sweetheart, your boss’s daughter, or your ex-wife’s best friend. stars, I really enjoyed the chemistry between Brick and Remi it was steamy and sizzling hot 🔥🔥🔥 but I felt like I was reading the same book all over again just with different characters and scenario. After about the 3rd one, I skipped every single sex scene cause I just didn’t care anymore 😂 I wanted to see the angst, hear their conversations, I wanted to read more about her painting because it was so interesting, but absolutely everything turned into sex when they were alone together they must have been exhausted! At over 580 pages it a thick book of romance, drama and friendship, I really did enjoy it even though some of the characters names are just really silly, seriously who names their kid Remington Honeysuckle 😆 and shouts 'Holy David Bowie' when frightened. connect after their killer push and pull with such a sensational build and delicious slow burn, it was scorching hot and cold shower inducing. There are wonderful, small-town gossipy folks, tight-knit to the core, that made the town seem like a character of its own.

I’ll start with what I liked, for the most part I liked the FMC Remi, she’s unique, funny, and brash. Oh and not to mention, Brick trying to deny his feeling for his ex wife’s best friend, who also happens to be his brother’s high school sweetheart, and the cherry on top… his boss’s daughter. There is something in the past, maybe not even of their doing that has caused this feeling of not being able to fully love the other person. The ridiculous amount of rejection and abandonment issues that he gave her, knowingly, over the years.I had to edit my original thoughts, I didn't even read the blurb before getting this because this is an author I sorta trusted. anything said is so out of context bc me just repeating what this book is about would put a normal person off.

He decided FOR her what her life should look like, and brutally, and repeatedly, rejected her for it. I really liked the small town vibe, Remi and Brick’s back and forth banter with each other, always challenging each other, never a dull moment with those two.She grew up in a literary family who insisted that the dinner table was for reading and earned a degree in journalism. I loved the back and forth between them and I was filled with so much anticipation for them to get together and it was absolutely worth the wait. And the whole “oh Remi you are just the most special girl in the world” and the other female characters hated her for being so special and taking all their shine literally made me want to burn the book.
