Description

The column Type indicates if it is available as acrylic (a) as well. All colours are matt unless noted in the colour name. Humbrol Acrylic Paint is ideal for many paint tasks around the home. Developed for plastic kit modellers, the paint is water based, fast drying and safe in use. Simple to mix colours to obtain further shades too, and the paint is suitable for airbrushing. The perfect general paint for all craft and modelling uses. The important thing to remember about mixing RAF Dark Earth based on XF-52, is that when you add Flat White to the mix, the red tones in the XF-52 tend to make the color shift to pink. This can be balanced by mixing in some more XF-3 Flat Yellow. Humbrol provides a Colour System Binder which contains instructions of how to interblend the paints of the Super Enamel range to obtain the discontinued shades as well as selected authentic colours.

In late 1990s Humbrol has moved to the much improved Super Enamel range. The Super Enamel paints use the same colour numbers, but have refined formula with very small pigment more suitable for airbrush application. However, with the introduction of Super Enamel some of the old colours losted in this chart have been discontinued. Substrate: A wide range of surfaces including most plastics, wood, glass, ceramics, metal, cardboard, sealed plaster, sealed hardboard and many more. Humbrol is one of the oldest model paint brands in Europe. Humbrol number are traditionally referred to in paint instructions of Matchbox, Airfix, Heller, MPM and other contemporary East European manufacturers. if you don't want to buy a load of new paint, there are TLAR RAF and USAAF matches.... or, as you do Swedish, some of those can be used... how 'accurate' do you want to be?RLM 76 - 40% Humbrol 65 and 50% Humbrol 28 and 10% white. Mostbrands of 76 have far too much 'blue' in them. Under certain lighting conditions RLM 76 was very bland.. Tamiya are probably one the most commonly available lines of hobby paints in the US as they are usually carried by R/C hobby shops, and we all know Tamiya is a dominant force in the R/C business. FAA Extra Dark Sea Grey:- To 50 parts of XF24 (dark grey), add 6 parts XF2 (white), and 3 parts XF8 (flat blue). Matt & Satin: 20-40 minutes touch dry and upto 24 hours for hard dry. Drying times will vary according to ambient temperature and humidity. Recoat: 6 hours minimum (preferably over night). Coverage Can someone tell Me what the item numbers might be for Tamiya and Humbrol RLM 74 and 75 if they even carry those German colors?

In the chart below, the annotation with colour name in red means that the corresponding paint number had been available in the traditional range of Humbrol enamels, but not in the Super Enamel range. late war - defensive 'greens' 81/82/83, usually over 76, often incombination with some of the greys. Usage: A water-based, fast dry paint developed for use on plastic model kits but which can also be used on other surfaces.Probably because I don't do a lot of Luftwaffe, I find the correct colours harder to fathom than Sabre wings and quantum mechanics. The photo of the Halb.D.II is covered with bleached linen fabric. The term canvas applies to fabrics which weigh more than 8 oz./sq.yard. Aircraft fabrics weighed in the range of 3.5 to 4.5 oz./sq.yd. I tend to use Humbrol enamels since they spray very nicely, are easily available at the local craft shop and don't clog the tip of the airbrush like acrylics can do. Having done a little research it is perfectly possible to come up with some reasonable 'RLM' equivalents - the table that follows won't provide a 100% 'match' of course but may be useful for those who don't fancy mixing up colours and/or purchasing more expensive and less easily available alternatives. And they are more than good enough for me -see the pics below of my 1:72nd scale Airfix Bf 109 E-4 and my Tamiya 1:48th scale Fw 190 A-3 below finished in Humbrol enamels. A google search will bring up other discussions andcomparison tests. The resultscome up broadly like this:
