All four of the tales in The Liminal Zone are worth reading, but Madonna stands out as something unique thanks to its leanings on Western religious horror and guilt. When Ito’s manga adaptation of No Longer Human was published, it actually received a grander fanfare from fans than did his adaptation of Frankenstein. This is another Ito short story that’s found in the Shivercollection. It’s also one of the very best Junji Ito manga to showcase his incredible approach to body horror. Some of the best horror and monster stories tap into this idea of uncharted, unknown parts of time and space.

Fun fact: When I was a kid watching Return of the Jedi, I thought that Yoda telling Luke that he was 900 years old meant that he was a human who happened to have lived for that long. El tomo lo leí en inglés, por lo que no se si todas las traducciones son así, las dos ultimas las puse en inglés no más. This is another story found in Shiver. I should mention that one of the cool things about Shiver (as is common with many manga tankobon) is the inclusion of little notes and anecdotes from the author. They’re often about what inspired the story to begin with. a story about a strange but beautiful woman named Tomie who wishes for an artist to accurately capture her beauty, and all the misfortune that happens as a result. This is the first chapter from the book TOMIE , which i am yet to read but after reading this , i am even more excited , and wth was the drawing at the end. MASTERPIECE! It’s then that Tomie arrives at Mori’s house to cause trouble. She basically forces Mori into taking her on as his new muse, and the challenge of capturing her beauty goes from being captivating to a maddening obsession. Tomie is insatiable; when Mori believes he’s done his best work, Tomie laughs in his face and goes to find another artist. These rituals and behaviours begin to make a kind of sense as secrets surrounding the principal and his wife come to light. Alternatively, you could start with some of the best-known stories, such as Uzumaki, Tomie, and the Shivershort story collection and then branch off from there. Will there be more Junji Ito stories? The most common obsessions are with beauty, long hair, and beautiful girls, especially in his Tomie and Flesh-Colored Horror comic collections. For example: A girl's hair rebels against being cut off and runs off with her head; Girls deliberately catch a disease that makes them beautiful but then murder each other; a woman treats her skin with lotion so she can take it off and look at her muscles, but the skin dissolves and she tries to steal her sister's skin, etc. This is his imagination working in remarkable ways. It also best showcases his uncanny ability to draw the human face in the most terrifyingly expressive ways.

Shiver (from Slug Girl, なめくじの少女 Namekuji no Shoujo), a story about a cursed jade stone that causes holes to open up all over a person's body if they're around it. Inside and outside of his home country, Junji Ito’s manga is celebrated as the best of Japanese horror writing. Uzumakiis Junji Ito’s most famous work. Sinister spirals have begun to appear everywhere in a small town. These spirals drive strange obsessions to the point that it ruins their life. Other instances show spiral-themed horrors, which incorporate a variety of terrifying and creative body contortions. The Uzumaki manga is arguably Junji Ito’s most famous book, apart from a select handful of his short stories (found below). Ito was born in Gifu prefecture in 1963. His debut horror book — which we’ll discuss below — was Tomie.

Used Records

This is an upcoming collection of nine stories adapted from author Hirokatsu Kihara, famed in Japan for his telling of urban legends. Junji Ito retells these tales in his unique style and perspective through the lens of university student Mimi and her boyfriend Naoto. Each story is a different encounter, which supposedly happened to someone in real life. Body horror is what he’s most known for. The result is all kinds of terrifying body contortions – as made famous in works such as Uzumaki and Shiver. It’s often this imagery that circulates online and has brought in readers. Remina the girl soon becomes famous, then feared, as conspiracy takes hold of the people and they speculate that the planet is headed for its namesake.

The premise is terrifying enough, but the horror comes from several places. The concept of a silent yet enormous hunter, and the innocent people trying to evade them, makes for an adrenaline rush of a story.

Shiver

It opens with a high school-aged boy noticing a neighbor looking out the window. She’s two or three years younger, but she has holes riddling her arm. Soon, he’s recalling his grandfather died of something that riddled his body with holes. As the story goes on, the main character tells a friend, they do some research, and the impossibility of living with holes in your body becomes a reality due to a curse. Other subgenres featured in his work include creature features and cosmic horror. These and other varieties of horror can be found alongside science fiction and folklore. Who publishes Junji Ito’s work? Found in the Smashedshort story collection, Earthbound is a Junji Ito manga that really leans on the eeriness factor. While many of his stories rely on cosmic horror or body horror, this one is more of a slow, creeping dread. Ito shows a little self-restraint here when it comes to his monstrous depictions of horror, but his unique style still shines through.
