Description

He has a real knack for situating people or other objects (like the crosses in that image) within space.

THE ART OF OBSERVATION Sir Roger Deakins CBE BSC ASC has published Byways, his first collection of photographs. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Byways is filled with purely black-and-white imagery – a medium Deakins finds powerful and enjoys working in, partly due to the work of the black-and-white photographers Deakins admired when growing up. BYWAYS includes previously unpublished personal black-and-white stills that reflect a life spent looking and telling stories through images, from 1971 to the present. Given the opportunity to see some of his personal work, not under the direction of others is not an opportunity I'll easily pass up.To celebrate the release of the museum’s new catalogue Agnès Varda: Director’s Inspiration, please join us for a conversation on Varda’s art, life, and legacy with book editor Matt Severson and contributing authors Manohla Dargis and Peter Debruge. The book signing will be held on the Schwartz Mezzanine, outside the David Geffen Theater, on January 29 from 1pm to 3pm. All limited-edition and sale items or where items are noted in the product description are final - no exchanges no refund. and there are a few images from a documentary film when Deakins was aboard a sailboat taking part in the Whitebread around the world race, this is not a series of outtakes or test shots.

You will be able to sign up and be entered in a drawing for one of the two books we’ll be giving away! I have spent almost half a century enjoying my life as a cinematographer, during which time I have photographed both documentaries and something like seventy feature films. I just love wandering which means I also take photographs during my time off when we’re shooting in places like New Mexico or Berlin. When my wife James and I spoke with them they said, ‘If you don’t want to focus on films, that’s fine. Beautiful reproductions and print quality, but arrived with a 6 inch tear down the spine after 6 months of waiting. There is what Deakins claims to be his very first picture, from Bournemouth in 1969, and there are pictures from the last few years. Byways is the first monograph by the legendary cinematographer, best known for his collaborations with directors such as the Coen brothers, Sam Mendes, and Denis Villeneuve. Some of the images in this book, such as those from Rapa Nui, New Zealand and Australia, he took whilst traveling with James.
