In this story, the sun sends down a ray of light that shatters, and the daughter is told to place them in the sky to provide light for her father. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned.

There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. In the upper grades of third through fifth, this would be more suitable as a read aloud but it could also be used for independent reading. Neon lights will be delivered in 2-4 weeks, as they are made in small batches and shipped separately from other items. The Fisherman's Daughter loved to dance in the Sunlight, and bathe in the glow of the Moon, but when the moon would disappear for a few nights each month, she would worry about her father and how he would find his way home from sea in the deep darkness. Therefore, this story would be helpful for illustrating to children that when a great deal of effort and care is put into a project or activity, there are great rewards. I actually didn’t know it would be a children’s book and I plan to gladly donate it to my local library who does not have a copy. However, on the few nights each month when the moon makes its journey to the other side of the world, her father is surrounded by total darkness.

A beautifully designed, deluxe edition of Poonam Mistry's CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal shortlisted children’s book, with a newly illustrated cover printed on a satin silk finish book cloth, with gold detailing and edges.I would liked some background on whether it was inspired by specific folktales or if it was just written like an origin story folktale. I'm not sure I would give five stars to the story itself, but with the illustrations I really can't do anything but give a five star rating. The Fisherman’s Daughter loved to dance in the sunlight, and bathe in the glow of the moon, but when the moon disappeared for a few nights each month, she worried about her father and how he would find his way home from the sea in the darkness of the night. So, the sun sends stars scattering them to the earth, and the girl's job is to place them deliberately in the sky to light up the world. Accompanied with incredibly stunning and intricate illustrations, this picture book would make a great addition to the bedtime routine.

Her style incorporates her love of nature and her Indian roots and explores the relationships between pattern, shapes and colour. However, the stars make the perfect guiding light for her father and shine beautifully in the sky, even though they are not placed in her perfect manner. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! Is it possible that ‘ a golden ray’ thrown down ‘ to Earth’ might shatter into ‘ a million glowing pieces’ that could provide him with constant light?I like how it mixes modern understanding of the world (the stars literally being tiny suns for example) with common tropes of traditional folklore, such as the mischievous monkey. Definitely recommend for any other fans of really pretty picture books, and/or mythology and world tales. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated! It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. Poonam’s upbringing and childhood have heavily influenced her work, in particular being surrounded by Indian fabrics, Kalamkari textiles, Madhubani paintings and hand-painted ornaments.
